Safe Dosages Of Tramadol

 

The medication Tramadol is to be used for pain. Adults who are taking this drug need to follow the correct dosage amount. When paid is mild to moderate and gradually increases in intensity, then the correct amount of Tramadol for pain management is 25 mg first thing in the morning. The amount can be increased in 25 mg increments separately for 3 days to a total of 100 mg per day. It is to be taken 4 times a day in 25 mg increments. Once this total is reached and the patient is still suffering, then Tramadol can be increased by 50 mg each day for 3 days until the total of 200 mg is reached. The daily doses then should be 50 mg 4 times a day.

For individuals who are in consistent moderate pain the medication can be used to maintain relief and can be taken every 4 to 6 hours in 50 mg to 100 mg. A patient with this pain level should not exceed 400 mg of Tramadol each day.

When pain management is required for moderate to severe level of pain that is constant in adults, the proper dose of Tramadol is 100 mg one time each day. The medication can safely be increased by 100 mg every 5 days with the maximum safe amount at no more than 300 mg each day.

Patients who have pain that occurs very quickly will need to take the Tramadol medication in a dose amount of 50 mg to 100 mg every 4 to 6 hours, and should not take more than 400 mg daily.

Patients who are over 65 years of age will need to exercise caution when using Tramadol. It is recommended for geriatric patients to begin at a low dose amount and those who are over age 75 should not exceed 300 mg each day in doses that are taken throughout the day.

Several precautions should be taken when using Tramadol. Tablets that are manufactured for extended release must be swallowed whole so do not crush or chew them. The medication should not be taken by those who have suffered from dependencies on other medications. Patients who have other conditions such as liver disease, renal disease or respiratory issues should take Tramadol with caution.
